NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2021-2023 BCC BOARD

We are accepting applications for two-year terms as vacancies arise. In addition to a Representative position, individuals may apply to be on one of the Standing Committees of the BCC — please find a list of possible options in the application, below. 

You may offer to volunteer at any time by contacting the BCC at info@brentwoodcommunitycouncil.org.

In order to apply, Applicants must agree to:

1. Read the Brentwood Community Council Seat Requirements (listed below for each position) and BCC Code of Conduct.

2. Commit to representing the interests of your particular constituency and proactively advocate on behalf of the BCC and your BCC Representative position;

3. Be an active user of E-mail and have the ability to download and read documents via computer or mobile devices;

4. Attend all BCC meetings with no more than 3 absences per year. BCC meetings are held at 7:00 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month at the Brentwood Library. Willingness to participate on committees. 

5. Pay Annual dues of $100 no later than February 1 of each year.

BCC APPLICATION

BCC SEATS & REQUIREMENTS

PUBLIC SCHOOLS SEAT
Qualified candidates are: 
1) Affiliated with a public school in the Brentwood community (e.g. involved parent, teacher, or administrator)
2) Willing to serve a two-year term and committed to representing the interests of Brentwood’s public schools on the BCC
3) Able to act as liaison with other public schools in Brentwood, co-chair yearly Student Civic Award

PRIVATE SCHOOLS SEAT
Qualified candidates are: 
1) Affiliated with a private school in the Brentwood community (e.g. involved parent, teacher, or administrator)
2) Willing to serve a two-year term and committed to representing the interests of Brentwood’s private schools on the BCC
3) Able to act as liaison with other private schools in Brentwood, co-chair yearly Student Civic Award

MULTI-FAMILY HOUSING
Qualified candidates must reside in apartments or condominiums and commit to a two-year term representing the best interests of multi-family housing constituents and serving as a liaison between constituents and the BCC

PUBLIC SAFETY
Qualified candidates commit to a two-year term advocating the best interests of the community re: public safety; acting as a resource in providing safety information to the community; serving as a liaison with LAPD Sr. Lead Officer and other safety personnel, as needed. Experience in Neighborhood Watch, CERT, Disaster Preparedness, and WLA Community-Police Advisory Bd. is beneficial. 

ENVIRONMENTAL
Qualified candidates commit to a two-year term. Consists of time-sensitive environmental issues which may include Brentwood green space projects, care of the Coral Trees, sustainable additions for the community and infrequent hearings regarding illegally cut down trees. The Representative is responsible for sending information from BCC meetings to stakeholders.

SAN VICENTE BUSINESS DISTRICT
Qualified candidates commit to a two-year term representing the best interests of the businesses on San Vicente Boulevard and serving as a liaison between those businesses and the BCC.

MEMBER-AT-LARGE
Qualified candidates commit to a two-year term representing the best interests of the community at large without allegiance to any single organization, and serving as a liaison between the community at large and the BCC

MINISTERIAL/CONGREGATIONAL
Qualified candidates commit to a two-year term representing the best interests of local congregations and serving as a liaison between the constituent groups and the BCC.

CIVIC/CULTURAL/NONPROFITS
Qualified candidates commit to a two-year term advocating on the BCC for local stakeholders in civic/cultural/nonprofit organizations, plus managing communication to/from the organizations, the BCC and the community as a whole. Knowledge of social media platforms is helpful, such as how to create an outreach campaign using Facebook or Twitter and/or a willingness to learn those skills quickly.

TRANSPORTATION SEAT
Review transportation-oriented projects in and around Brentwood. Responsibilities include reviewing environmental impact reports and attending meetings with developers, Council District 11, LADOT, local HOAs, and other impacted groups to determine project impacts, discussing potential modifications, and making recommendations to the BCC on whether or not to support the developments. Overall, seek ways to improve mobility around Brentwood for all modes of transportation.

LAND USE CHAIR
The Land Use Chair leads monthly meetings of the BCCs Land Use Committee. The Committee reviews commercial projects in the BCC territory that require discretionary approvals and makes recommendations to the BCC. The Committee also reviews pending legislation at the state and local level and makes recommendations on such legislation to the BCC. The Chair is responsible for creating the meeting agendas, interfacing with applicants, attending the BCC meetings and reporting to the BCC. The Chair is also responsible for writing up the BCC recommendations and seeing they are communicated to the correct public representatives. Experience in real estate development, entitlements and/or land use is a must. 

LEGAL ADVISOR
Legal Advisor acts as Parliamentarian for the Board meetings and weighs in on legal issues that might arise.  Must be a member of the California Bar. Position is ex officio.
